Every game of soccer doesn't have to be played based on the rules and regulations. Some times soccer players just want to play for fun. This is usually called a pick-up game. In a pick-up game players split into two teams and agree on a certain set of rules and boundaries. These kind of games are good for increasing your skill, but also give everyone a chance to play.

A pick-up game of soccer can be played on a regulation size field, but is usually played in a smaller area. A standard way to play is with smaller goals - marked using cones or extra soccer balls, having no set goalie, and playing with only 4 to 8 players on a team. The field boundaries should be set using available objects or landmarks so that everyone is clear what is out of bounds.

Besides the regulation style of soccer, there is also indoor soccer. Played indoors on a turf or rubber style flooring, indoor soccer can be considered similar in rules and regulations to hockey. The game is played with less players and smaller goals, but there is also the ability to ricochet the ball off the walls around the playing area.
